this weekend was full of handmade goodness.
i was worried that our weekend would be packed with a busy saturday, lunch dates & chores, but with a few extra hours here & there, i managed to stay at home as much as possible & very close to my sewing machine. i am in the beginnings of my very first quilt (little bits & pieces on instagram!) & spent most of my time carefully cutting out triangles & piecing the top of the quilt together. this is such an exciting project to take on & i'm loving every moment of it - even the frustrated, not-so-pretty moments.
on sunday, i set aside the quilt & pulled out some extra fabric from my stash to make a coffee cozy for a friend. this is such a quick project that you could make this evening or save until the weekend.
there are so many tutorials out there & i am no expert in sewing so i will save you from my own. i used this tutorial from the practically functional blog, which i loved. she has a great pattern you can download & print along with clear instructions- all free!
i have made several cozies before this one using this pattern & decided to use fabric over felt. in addition, i added about 1/2 inch around the pattern because i felt it needed to be a bit longer & wider. i also sewed on a bit of trim for fun.
the pink fabric is vintage & the yellow & white fabric is a chevron pattern i purchased online for another project. the trim was picked up at a craft store & the button was found in my big jar of old buttons stash.
with a bit of packaging & doodling, this little gift is ready.
happy crafting!
love,

really well done - love the finishing touches!!
That is absolutely lovely! Beautiful work, Natalie. :)
Very cute! That fabric is so pretty. I had quite a "craft" filled weekend, too! I made two skirts & a headband. Always a good feeling to know you've accomplished a lot even on a busy weekend.
tori- i would love to see what your skirts look like! i made a headband a couple of weekends ago, but it feels a little tight so i think i need to make it looser :)
Great photos! I love the picture of your button jar. The new camera was a great investment!
That is adorable. And the card you wrapped it around! - the presentation may be my favorite part. You are so creative Natalie.
you just ooze creativity lady!!! I JUST bought the same trim the other day for a project! LOVE yellow! :) And the watercolor card you wrapped it around...too cute! :)
