the newest addition: our camper!

say hello to the newest addition to our little family! after months of saving & months of researching, we finally have a cute little camper for our many adventures!

she's a 1997 13ft shadow cruiser. i had my heart set on a vintage scamp camper, but after considering our needs, we opted for practical over pretty. specifically, we wanted a bathroom & hoped for a full kitchen with ample counter space. this camper also has a little bunk bed, which is perfect for our nephew & any additions to the freeman family in years to come! she can be pulled with our smaller vehicles, which is also a plus!

as you can tell, she's in need of a little love! i am working within our budget & plan to be very mindful of spending. i am keeping all of our receipts & hope to share a breakdown of our remodel costs. to start, i am having the cushions recovered. i hope to paint the interior this summer, too! i can't wait to share the process as it unfolds.

for now, aside from some simple changes in aesthetic, she's in perfect condition & ready to hit the road! we're taking her out on her first maiden voyage this weekend! to the river, we go!

what do you think? do you have a camper? how have you saved money on remodel costs? tips for what to include in our little camper? please share your thoughts!

love,
natalie

p.s. she needs a name! we're thinking susie q, the shadow cruiser! what do you think?

When my granddaughter was born, I saw an adorable vintage camper in Mary Jane's Farm magazine and decided that, instead of a playhouse in the backyard, we would get her a camper to play in. So, when the time comes (she's only 8 months old) we will go on the hunt for one we can makeover and set up for our little cowgirl :)

I'm excited to see your makeover process!

Check out Becky from Organizingmadefun.com, she has a camper she redid as a "guest house" and has great, simple tutorials for redecorating an RV.

If you are feeling adventurous, Mandy at VintageRevivals did a camper makeover and it's GORG!

You will most likely want to get an outdoor rug that fits under the canopy. We have a folding table and chairs that we keep outside...also under the canopy and zero gravity chairs that we use for lounging. I do all of my cooking outside when the weather is agreeable....most used items are my George Foreman grill and roaster.....you can cook almost anything with them๐Ÿ˜‰
Our camper is just as small as yours....downsize is the water supply if you don't have a hook up available. I make good use of the outside shower....I even set up a little dishwashing area.

I also suggest a bike rack on the back of the camper.๐Ÿ˜Š

Love this camper renovation: http://addisonswonderland.com/category/our-camper-renovation/. Most of all, I love how the vintage campers were decorated for your canning workshop! You should totally do that to your own!

Hi Natalie,
I'm a IG follower (from Alberta) and wanted to share a few things I've learned since we remodelled the interior of our '74 Sprite Caravan, which we named "Maple". First, you can never have enough vintage tins to store things in. Food, tools, supplies, toys, matches...They are waterproof, critter-proof and cute! Also I like to bring at least one large plaid wool blanket for everyone camping. They're great for campfires and can be rolled up as lovely armrests, or pillows for stargazing. Lastly, we have a log book called "Maple's Miles" it contains the location and site of every place we've stayed, along with important details like websites, maps, vintage postcards, and the ever-important "next time bring" list. Hope this helps & happy camping!
