what gives me peace.

more than anything...
more than reading outside...
or having coffee by myself...
or knitting a few rows...
or taking my bicycle for a stroll...
or even baking a dozen cookies...

what puts my heart & mind at ease is digging into the dirt, planting little seedlings, pulling out weeds, shoveling compost...

listening to the birds chirp, feeling the cool breeze on my back, conversing with my husband as we prepare another bed...

i am finding that i know myself a bit more with each day in our garden, with each shovel full of mulch & every row of turnips planted. the little successes & the many failures are worth it because we're learning, we're stretching ourselves, we're growing.

love,
natalie

This is so perfect. I started doing a little gardening last year and the joy in just trying it and learning was well worth it.
Your pictures are just lovely.

Oh, I love all of this too! Unfortunately, we've moved and...no more garden. Have fun. It's such a gratifying pursuit.

I love this post!

I wish you lived closer. I'm doing a documentary project on local food growers and it would be so fun to photograph your garden.
